Hey everyone it’s Adam DeGraide here with another micro motivation.
If you missed last week’s, I talked about how to be angry, and how not to sin, and how difficult that actually is, so make sure you check it out. This week I was thinking about something interesting and actually it was inspired, believe it or not, from a silly scene in a silly comedy called Talladega Nights, The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
And there’s a scene where Ricky Bobby has basically forgotten what it means to be a driver, which is what he was born to do. And he was doubting himself and he was sitting there with Susan.
And they were sitting at this restaurant they were talking, he was saying to Susan that in order to be loved, you have to be a winner, and he was saying you don’t understand everyone knows it’s a well known fact that in order to be loved, you first must have to win, and Susan just getting so frustrated watching this once former great race driver. They just go on this most ridiculous rant back and forth, but she said something that’s very interesting. She says you know why I think you need to drive, Ricky Bobby, because it was what you were born to do. You keep sitting around here and you keep thinking you don’t need to think, you need to drive, not for anyone else, but for you.
And it was interesting, it seems, it’s over the top ridiculous, it’s a very, very silly scene but it’s got some profound truth in there as well too you see if we forget who we are and what we were born to do. We can sometimes be like Ricky Bobby thinking that, well, I’m not a winner. I’m a loser. You know I’ve lost my mojo or all these different things and I came across a passage in a book that I finished today called Masterpiece by Francine Rivers, and she adds in her epilogue with a verse from scripture, and it’s in Ephesians 2 verses 10 It says, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Jesus Christ. So we can do the good things that he planned for us to do a long time ago.” Think about that. I am a masterpiece, according to the Bible. You’re a masterpiece of God. And God has made you right now, and planned things for us both you and I, for things for us to do a long, long time ago.
And we forget this fact we don’t realize this fact that we are a masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, is basically what the Bible says, You see, We don’t need to think we need to know, and then we need to drive onto the mission of what God has actually called us to do. And so often we sit there and we say in order to be loved. We must win. Well no, it’s the opposite way. You are loved. Therefore, you can win. It’s not the other way around. You don’t win in order to be loved. You are loved. Therefore you can win. And you see what I want to encourage all of us with today is if you’re like Ricky Bobby. I know it’s kind of silly to use as an illustration but it makes perfect sense to me, and you forgot who you are. Remember this, In Ephesians chapter two. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us brand new in Christ Jesus, so we could do good things he planned for us long ago. See, you don’t have to win in order to be loved. You are loved. So therefore you can win.
This has been a micro motivation with Adam DeGraide. Remember if you can’t make your point in under four minutes, you might not have one to make.
Have a great day.
