Adam DeGraide: Speaker
Hey everyone, this is Forky and I’m Adam DeGraide.
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch this video today. I learned a lot about this character from Toy Story four. But before I get into it, make sure you check out last week’s video on Haggai. Believe it or not, it’s a book in the Old Testament, very, very interesting. You can learn about God in so many places, but this character was one that really blew me away.
Come in a little closer, Krystle.
So Forky is basically a spork, with a little twisty tie, some popsicle sticks, a few buttons on it. And what ended up happening in the movie was Bonnie was this little girl who went to her first day of school. She was very afraid, and Woody went with her, snuck in with her, made her comfortable. She ended up making this toy out of a spork, which is a fork as you know.
And wrote her name on the bottom, it said Bonnie.
And there’s a quote in the movie where Forky says,
“Who am I and what am I doing here”? In Forky’s entire life; He kept trying to run back to the trash, he’d go trash and then Woody would have to go pick them out of the trash, bring them back. He’d look at Woody and Woody, would be holding him, as soon as Woody let go he’d go back to the trash, and he kept trying to throw himself, because he believed he belonged in the trash, because he thought he was only a spork, but Woody was trying to help Forky understand that you’re way more than just a food item, something to eat food with you are Bonnie’s toy, and she made you, for her pleasure, for her enjoyment and Forky kept trying to throw himself back into the trash, back into the trash, back into the trash and Woody kept saying, No, you’re supposed to be Bonnie’s toy.
And it wasn’t until, Forky, A light bulb went off in Forky’s mind, if you can say he had a mind, where all of a sudden he realized, Oh, I was raised to help Bonnie have great life and to give her joy, and that’s my true purpose, and he stopped wanting to go to the trash, and he started enjoying his life with Bonnie, and it really made me think about how God has made us the exact same way. We’re fearfully and wonderfully made, the Bible says, And yet all of us are running around like Forky going trash, and we keep going back to this bad behavior or this thing over here we’re realizing that we just keep trying to throw ourselves away.
But God has a purpose. And just like Bonnie’s name was written on the bottom of Forky because it was hers.
The Bible says in Romans, that the Holy Spirit was poured out into our heart and in the Old Testament, it talks about how God’s law was written on our heart, and as a result. In Matthew, it says whatever your treasure is, there you will find your heart, also, you see, just like Forky, we were not made for the trash, we were made to bring pleasure and purpose and worship to God, because He loves us.
We are fearfully and wonderfully made. And when you think about the fact that Forky wasn’t happy until he recognized that it was Bonnie’s name down here, and he was made for her pleasure that brought him joy and pleasure, the exact same thing is true for us as humans.
We will never be truly satisfied, never find the peace we’re really looking for until we surrender to Jesus, because He is written on our hearts. He has a purpose and a plan for us. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, and so was I and thank God that I came to the realization that I was made for his pleasure. His purpose, because only there can I find my true purpose in life.
This has been a micro motivation with Adam. Once again if you can’t make a point in under four minutes, you might not have one to make.
Thank you so much for watching. Have a great day and hey check out Toy Story 4 check out Forky.
