Hey everyone, it’s Adam DeGraide here with another micro motivation.
Welcome back to my regular viewers, if this is your first time, thanks for taking the time to watch the video. I appreciate it.
What I try to do here is make my point under four minutes. And it’s not easy all the time but sometimes it’s actually difficult to go past three minutes, but I read a passage the other day. In Haggai. Many of you probably haven’t even heard the book, but I’m reading through the Bible in a year as I’ve talked about in my videos, this passage was really intriguing to me.
It said in Haggai, I hope I’m pronouncing that right.
chapter one, verses five through seven. It says now, “this is what the Lord Almighty says “Give careful thought to your ways, you had planted much, but you harvested little. You eat, but you never have enough. You drink, but you never have your fill. You put on clothes, but you are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.
This is what the Almighty says. Give careful thought to your ways.”
And I started thinking about this as I was reading this passage. Isn’t this so true of our culture and our society right now that we never have enough. We eat and are never full. We drink and can never be satisfied, we earn wages but they just seem to fall out of our purse.
I read an article today that said, Over 40% of Americans have less than $1,000 in savings in case of an emergency. And, you know, that’s pretty amazing when you think about it. And at the end of the day it really comes down to giving careful thought to what we need to do in our lives.
And an old proverb that I read in a book the other day. It was an interesting one too and it said, when is the best time to plant a tree?” 20 years ago. When is the second-best time? today. And I love that, when you think about what the Bible is telling us in Haggai, that we are always trying to live our best life and we’re always trying to do these things but we’re never really thinking and carefully considering our ways, were eating and never full, drinking is never full, and we have clothes but they don’t make us warm. We make money and we burn it through and I think what God’s trying to tell us is that he’s got a better plan for our lives, and that we can actually give towards him store up treasures that are in heaven. But also be wise, while we’re here on Earth. And so one of the things that I’m trying to be mindful of is okay, what do I want my life to look like 5 years from now, 20 years from now, one year from now, one month from now, the choices I make right now will determine what that is going to be.
Same thing is true in your life and in my life. We have to be wise. And that’s why it says the Lord Almighty tells us to be careful, and consider our ways. Because every little decision we make has a consequence, and those consequences ripple into our lives and into our future.
So let’s make great choices today guys.
