Hey everyone, it’s Adam DeGraide here with another micro motivation. And it is cold, in Florida right now which is hard to believe as you can see the oceans behind me as my viewers know I’m a big fan of the water. I love it. You can you hear the ocean how loud it is. And I was just standing out here and just being amazed at God’s creation and what that means for all of us, and I was thinking about gratitude and I was thinking about things that I’ve recently learned in my life. Many years ago there was an artist. Many of you may or may not know him, his name is Charlie Peacock. He actually wrote a famous song: “I want to be in the light as you are in the light”, but one of my favorite songs my Charlie peacock song called, “You can only possess what you experience”, and the lyrics were:
You can only possess what you experience
Life to be understood, must be lived,
because you can only possess what you experience.
And he was talking about how there’s a difference between knowing it here, [pointing to his head] and then knowing it right here in your heart, and that’s what’s amazing and several weeks back, our pastor of Mariners Church out in California, actually was talking about how you can rewire your brain. And by doing that, by twice a day in the morning, in the afternoon, writing at least three things that you were grateful for, and that you experienced, and that you could feel just gratitude. What he said is after doing this for like 30 days, truth is: I only got to 12 days, by the way, that’s how bad I am. All of us need to work at these different things to be better at it. But he said by doing that, three times in the morning, three times and then verbally, sharing it to those around you, you can literally change and rewire the way your brain thinks, and that comes with gratitude. And when I think about, you can only possess what you experience. I mean think about it. Look at this guys. This is amazing. This is God’s creation.
It’s the ocean. It’s beautiful. It’s cold. It’s dark. It can be warm. It can be filled with life, it is filled with life, but you can’t really know what an ocean is like, until you put your foot in it. You can’t really know what a beautiful place is, you can see pictures of it, but it doesn’t really become yours until you’re there.
And that is so true, even with our faith and what we believe, you know so many of us give mental assent to the fact that there’s a God and a creator and that, and some of us even that Jesus is the savior, but we’ve never really experienced him, asked him into our hearts to change our lives, and to experience it, but the thing is is Charlie said you can only possess what you experience, you know, last week I talked about how the “Chase is On,” about how all of us were born to chase after something. And I also believe that experiences are part of that we all know that there’s something more special and more profound and more beautiful than just knowing something here [pointing to his head], we have to know it here, [pointing to his heart], and that’s where it comes in and saying, God, show me today. Be with me today, live inside me today, let me experience the presence of your Holy Spirit, let me know what it means to be saved and to be someone who’s forgiving, and that is powerful because then you can actually know that God loves you, because you’ve experienced him in a deeper way, not just here [pointing to his head], but it’s transmitted here. [pointing to his heart], If you first have to understand him here. There’s no doubt about it, but he got it trickle it down to the heart, it’s got to be more than just head knowledge.
So folks, thank you so much for listening to this micro motivation. Remember, this is Adam DeGraide If you can’t make your point in under four minutes, you might not have one to make.
Thank you so much guys, tune in next week, you never know where I’m gonna be, you never know what I’m going to talk about.
