[Micro Motivation #15 – “It’s Who You Are!” In this video I disucss a serious …]
Speaker: Adam DeGraide
Hey, everyone, it’s Adam DeGraide here with another Micro Motivation. It’s not who you were, it’s who you are.
I was out several weeks back at a pub having a few adult beverages with a friend and we were just conversing one to another about our lives, our past, things we’ve gone through. And as I was listening to him speak, I noticed a phrase that he kept saying over and over again. We were talking about some of the shortfalls in his life and some of the challenges that he had going on and he kept saying the following phrase, “Well, you know, I’m just a heroine baby.”
I heard it the first time. I let it kind of slip by. Several minutes later, we’re talking some more. We’re talking about something else he’s struggling with in his life and he goes, “Well, you just know, I’m just a heroine baby.”
And I stopped him, and I said, “You know, I got to say something to you because I care about you so much. We’re sitting here and we’re talking and we’re hanging out and if you see yourself as just a heroine baby, I can’t even imagine what your life must be like. And you see, the both of us are believers and as believers, the Bible says that we’re more than conquerors.” I said, “That self-talk to yourself is going to do you much better than, ‘I’m just a heroine baby.’”
And the passage that I actually refer to in this, it says the following: It says, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ, shall trouble or hardship, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger or a sword, as it is written, ‘For your sake, we face death all day long. We are considered a sheep to be slaughtered.’ No. In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”
And I said, “You know, man,” I said, “You’re not just a heroine baby. You’re a believer. You have something bigger than yourself. See, you got to remember this, folks. It’s not who you were, it’s who you are now. All the horrible things that have happened in all of our lives, in your lives, you might think, I wasn’t wanted by my father or my mother or I’ve never been loved or I’m just this, my dad was this, my mom was this, I had this happen to me when I was young. All these things that we speak into our lives in negativity creates this self-impression of ourselves. I’ve always told people you treat people the way you see them, including yourself. If you see yourself as just anything other than loved by God and a conqueror in God, you’re going to struggle through life.
And I really want to encourage you this, I mean, I was raised with a father who was a drug addict and an alcoholic. I was raised with a mother who enabled that behavior, who are two amazing people today, you would never even know it if you met them both now. But imagine if I lived my life walking around saying, “I’m just an enabler. I’m just the person raised by an alcoholic.” I wouldn’t have never done anything in my life.
You are more than just because. You are more than just this. You are not just that. The Bible specifically says you are loved, and you are cared for by Christ. Once you become a believer, once you accept the Lord into your life, you are more than a conqueror. Don’t forget it.
This has been another Micro Motivation by Adam DeGraide. Remember, if you can’t make your point in under four minutes, you might not have a point to make. Thank you so much for watching the video. Be sure to share it and like it if you’ve enjoyed it. Thanks, guys, have a great day.
